A Step By Step Guide to Removing Wood Stains
1- Prepare Your Work Area
Stain stripper contains chemicals that can be dangerous to use in indoor spaces, it’s better if you work in an open space but if that’s impossible, work in a room with its door and windows open. Turn on the room fan so the fumes blow outside the room easily.
2- Cover Your Area
A newspaper or other similar material will save your floor from damage in case a stain stripper gets on it. So use it under the area you will be working in.3- Use Protective Equipment
Use safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves as they are necessary. To save your skin, wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants, and shoes as they will be helpful. Otherwise, you’ll be looking for ways of removing the wood stain from your skin which you definitely wouldn’t want. For safety, read the stain stripper manufacturer's instructions for recommendations on the type of chemical gloves to be used.
4- Pour Stripper into a Metal Material and Apply
For holding the stain stripper use a disposable aluminum pan or a metal bowl. Plunge a paintbrush with stain stripper and gently paint the wood surface by spreading the material evenly. You can also spray wood stain remover on the stains. Please ensure that the coat of stain stripper is dense but even.
5- Let the Strain Stripper Soak
Patience is required here as you should wait for fifteen to twenty minutes and carefully check the surface. Keep on checking until it’s fully soaked into your wood. If you notice any spot that looks dry, do apply stain stripper to that region. A significant point to remember is that the strain stripper doesn’t dry out while you wait for it to work.6- Scrape the Stain Stripper Off the Wood
Only use a plastic scraper as a metal scraper with a sharp edge could damage the surface of the wood.
7- Wipe Down the Surface
By using water and rag, remove any leftover stain stripper on the wood to make it clear. After cleaning, your wood will be totally clean, shiny, and new.
